Body of Research Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born January 30, 1882 in Hyde Park, New York as an only child to a rich couple. â€Å"Franklin’s family had been prominent for several generations, having made their fortune in real estate and trade. Roosevelt was the only child of James Roosevelt and Sara Ann Delano Roosevelt. The family lived at Springwood, their estate in the Hudson River Valley in New York State.†(Biography.com Editors, pg.1).As previously inquired, the fact that Roosevelt had been born to a rich family severely influenced his life and education. It maybe was because of his experience at Groton that ushered him to make himself something more. Along with winning this election Roosevelt took in the valuable experience in political tactics and intrigue. Along with the happiness came dismay because Franklin earned the ire of party leaders. â€Å"As a state senator, Roosevelt opposed elements of the Democratic political machine in New York.† (Friedel and Sidey pg. 5) This explains the fact that Franklin received dislikes upon his actions taken as state senator of New York. In 1912 Roosevelt was reelected and served as chair of the agriculture committee. During the National Democratic Convention followed in the footsteps as his idol Theodore Roosevelt and became Assistant Secretary of the Navy by supporting presidential candidate at the time, Woodrow Wilson. In 1914 Roosevelt decided to run for the U.S Senate seat for New York.
